How to Combat Job Stress and Feel More Relaxed at Work and at Home

January 16, 2014

Regardless of what type of job you have, chances are that you are getting stressed out and then bringing that home with you each evening. Stress can lead to serious problems within the body if you cannot find a way to cope with it in a timely manner. Your ability to relax and have fun with your family is often interrupted by your constant increasing stress levels. This could lead to you being short with family members, not completing needed chores around the house, and not being able to slow down and do fun things with your kids. Here are some of the leading causes of stress in the workplace followed by some techniques to help you reduce work stress.

One of the most common causes of stress in the workplace is from employers who simply expect too much from their employees. Pushing employees to work harder while reminding them there will be no pay increase is a reason many workers get frustrated and stressed at work. Other causes of stress are management who feel that they have to micromanage every aspect of the company and fellow employees who you simply cannot get along with. Spending eight or more hours in these conditions day after day can cause your stress levels to reach dangerous levels once you arrive home.

The best way to lessen your stress levels is to be able to turn to people at work who will not only listen, but offer some advice and comfort on how to handle the situation. Surround yourself with people at work that you can talk to on your lunch break who have more experience and understanding. Simply being able to talk about the reasons you are stressed at work can often lessen your stress levels so by the time you get home the issue is nonexistent.

Money is one of the leading causes of stress for most people. There is either not enough of it at the end of the month, your bills are increasing, your pay is decreasing, or there are unexpected emergencies with your vehicle. When you stress about money, your production at work suffers, and you increase the pressure of management coming down on you. In turn you go home at night with stress from your job and the stress from your money. This vicious cycle needs to be broken or you risk serious health issues.

One of the best ways to deal with the stress of money is to simply realize that stressing over money doesn\'t make the issue go away. Many times you create a bigger issue in your mind than it really is. Write down a list of all your incoming income and a list of all the money you pay out each month. Look at the numbers carefully and look for ways you can cut back on your expenses. Trimming five dollars a day in coffee at Starbucks can knock off over $100 a month from your expenses. Try cutting a few bills and then look and see how close you are to getting ahead. many times this number is much more attainable when you see it on paper.
